DocG 0 Posted January 24, 2015 Hi - I'm trying to ID the fossils I found at Rock Hound State Park, in Deming, NM. I'd appreciate any feedback on my photos. Thanks Doc G
Jdeutsch 36 Posted January 24, 2015 Someone can correct me, but I thought that Rock Hound park was primarily volcanic- a nice place to look for minerals, but not fossils. Gas pockets, geodes, etc. occur there.
FossilDAWG 5,849 Posted January 25, 2015 I concur with Jdeutsch. Rock Hound State Park is noted for "thunder eggs", geodes (many totally filled in) that formed in gas vugs in volcanic rock. People often saw these and polish up the sections, which are quite attractive. There are no sedimentary rocks and no fossils there. Don
