abyssunder
Hello TFF! Reading the most recent posts I found "something" similar to what I collect from the Black Sea shore many years ago and left somewhere in my collection. I never thought that this could be a buckler type of dermal denticle from the caudal region of Raja Clavata. Can you please confirm that it is from R.Clavata, living in the Black Sea? I post some pictures: Thank you. abyssunder
As i see in that comprehensive publication in the Black Sea lives only 3 kind of Rajidae:Raja clavata,Dasyatis pastinaca,Gymnura altavela. Considering this, only Raja Clavata has this kind of dermal denticle. Al Dente, thanks for your pretious help! siteseer
A very similar specimen identified as Raja clavata (though its body position is not given) is also figured in Deynat and Brito (1994;242, fig. 1).
