sixgill pete
This item came from some sediment from the recent offshore dredging at Topsail Island, North Carolina. The sediment is early Oligocene River Bend Formation. Being that it is pumped onto the beach and does mix with recent items, this could be recent, but I don't think it is. It is 2.78 mm X 2.40 mm. And I am clueless as to it's identity. Any and all thoughts and ideas are greatly appreciated. Found in this sediment; along with other things including Echinocymus wilsoni ( an Oligocene micro echinoid) was this tooth, Scoliodon terrnova, showing it is Oligocene, River Bend material. There has been an un-described brittle star found in some of the rocks brought up by this dredging. Vball
Nice finds!!! The Shark tooth looks like a Rhizoprionodon sp. or looks very close to the oligocene-miocene Rhizoprionodon "fischeuri" Edited July 12, 2015 by Vball
Al Dente
I agree with Julianna. There is a lot of interesting stuff in that sand. Along with the Oligocene fossils, I've found a nice rodent incisor that is probably Pleistocene or Pliocene. Have you found any brachiopods? I saw a mention of brachs in the recent article in the club paper. I haven't found any.
masonboro37
Nice finds Don! The sand from there does have splendid surprises. I am still looking through mine. Process of identification "mistakes create wisdom".

I saw the mention of brachs in the club paper also, but I have not found any yet either. I have several micro echinoids that look like little balls. They are as long as wide as thick. Look like Echinocymus in every other way though.
