Myrtle Beach Find

My mom found this rock while visiting the beach at Myrtle Beach, SC. It looks like it's been carved into maybe a cat? We're just curious if anyone has seen a rock like this and what's its origin.

Thanks!

Not carved, except to the extent that it has been carved by wind, waves, and abrasion. My guess would be that it's almost certainly the internal mold of a bivalve.

Welcome to the Forum. :)

Yup - internal mold of a bivalve - something like Cucullaea gigantea.

Neat find.

Regards,

EDIT: They are also known by many colloquial names, such as: Deer Heart Clams, Turtle Heads, and Heart Stones ...
