fossilized6s
It looks like a clam bored chunk of bone. ~Charlie~ "There are those that look at things the way they are, and ask why.....i dream of things that never were, and ask why not?" ~RFK ->Get your Mosasaur print ->How to spot a fake Trilobite ->How to identify a CONCRETION from a DINOSAUR EGG
Auspex
It looks like a clam bored chunk of bone. This is correct, and it was probably bored before it was loosed from matrix and rolled by the waves (note the eroded openings of the borings). 1 "There has been an alarming increase in the number of things I know nothing about." - Ashleigh Ellwood Brilliant “Try to learn something about everything and everything about something.” - Thomas Henry Huxley >Paleontology is an evolving science. >May your wonders never cease! Rockwood
It most likely is bone, but wood that has been in disoxic bottom waters can look surprisingly bone like. Is there any sign of growth rings in the ends ?
Beamertg
No. But this is another one i found. Very similar

ynot
Tis also bone. Tony Darwin said: " Man sprang from monkeys." Will Rogers said: " Some of them didn't spring far enough." Rockwood
Agreed. It never hurts to check the ends though. Just to clarify; I'm not an expert on fossil wood. I just happened to cut up a log that had been pulled from the bottom of a lake for fire wood and was surprised to find this pattern.
Beamertg
They are both hard like stone which is why i picked it up. I have a thing for rocks picked this one up because it looked like a face

I have a thing for rocks picked this one up because it looked like a face Perhaps you misunderstood. I wasn't suggesting that your pieces look modern. When I look at this fire wood I see an example of something that could look like fossilized bone in a few million years.
Beamertg
Oh no I understood. Just clarifying that it was hard like stone. I appreciate all opinions
Rockwood
The shells of rock boring clams seems like the obvious answer to this last one. I'm a little puzzled that no one has suggested it though, so perhaps not.
