It looks like a clam bored chunk of bone.

This is correct, and it was probably bored before it was loosed from matrix and rolled by the waves (note the eroded openings of the borings).

It most likely is bone, but wood that has been in disoxic bottom waters can look surprisingly bone like. Is there any sign of growth rings in the ends ?

Agreed. It never hurts to check the ends though.

Just to clarify; I'm not an expert on fossil wood. I just happened to cut up a log that had been pulled from the bottom of a lake for fire wood and was surprised to find this pattern.

They are both hard like stone which is why i picked it up. I have a thing for rocks picked this one up because it looked like a face

Perhaps you misunderstood. I wasn't suggesting that your pieces look modern. When I look at this fire wood I see an example of something that could look like fossilized bone in a few million years.

The shells of rock boring clams seems like the obvious answer to this last one. I'm a little puzzled that no one has suggested it though, so perhaps not.
