Auspex
From the extensive wear on the teeth, he won't be learning any new tricks! Rockwood
From the extensive wear on the teeth, he won't be learning any new tricks! Could be a clue. Seems more consistent with rock carrying than critter gnawing. Wouldn't that spell domestication ?

Sacha
I have a recent coyote skull and it's 7 1/2 inches long. It seems to be more gracile from the top view than yours though.
garyc
I just found this on line http://scavenging-jackal.tumblr.com/post/44082675592/how-to-tell-a-coyote-skull-from-a-domestic-dog If this is accurate my measurements say it's a domestic dog. RichW9090
Adult domestic dog skulls range in length from less than 4 inches to about 10 inches. A side view of the skull would help. The premolars are a bit crowded, with P2 and P3 overlapping, which suggests domestic dog. Notice the asymmetrical P1's. The plural of "anecdote" is not "evidence".
