Minerva8918
Hi everyone! I found this at Brownies Beach. Calvert Formation, Miocene. What stood out to me is what looks like one fairly well-defined cusplet, and perhaps a barely-there one on the opposite shoulder (is there another word for that area on a tooth?). Viewing the lingual side alone makes it almost look like just a nick in the tooth, but the labial side looks more cusplet-y to my very untrained eyes.Elasmo has a photo of an I. hastalis with cusplets, calling it an "unusual variation." I've read a few posts here about Makos with cusplets, but didn't find any that look like my Mako here. I'd love some input on it. Thank you! MarcoSr
Makos with cusplets are a lot more common from the Chesapeake Bay region than reported, especially the small Makos which were from juvenile sharks. There is a wide variety of cusplet forms. Your tooth definitely has a nick or chip in the cutting edge. Even if it was a cusplet, it would not be usual based upon Makos that I have.
