Stynieke
I'm sorry, I'm very new to this. I'm not even sure if these count as fossils... They're sea creatures that are.. hard? I must sound like an idiot - but I was hoping if someone could help me identify what kind of animals these are. (Or if this isn't the right forum to ask, if someone could direct to one that is?) I bought these a few weeks ago at some temporary "rock festival" (Not sure about the proper name in english, I'm dutch). My mom loves this kind of stuff, so I bought it for her mother's day. But I'd like to give it to her with atleast some information about the animal. But I have no idea what it is right now.The person that sold it to me only could say one of them (I even forgot which one T_T) was found in the phillipenes... Pictures: Animal 1: Animal 2: I'd like to thank you in advance!! Edited April 29, 2016 by Stynieke
Raggedy Man
Hello and welcome to the forum. These are modern animals. The first one is a horseshoe crab and probably a molt. The second one I have absolutely no clue what type of crab it is, but I can say for sure that it's not a fossil. Best regards, Paul ...I'm back. tmaier
Nice display items, yeah, but shame someone had to kill them. If they are just used as pretty display objects, then it is indeed a waste to kill them. But if they are used by people to study anatomy then it can be beneficial. Objects like this might inspire a kid to pursue science. I have animal parts scattered throughout the house. There is a pelican skull in the kitchen drawer, a goat skull with an enormous set of horns in the laundry room, a pile of boar and deer bones by my front door, and many other teeth, jaws, and bones in drawers around my house. Some guests get a surprise if they open a drawer. Most all of mine either found in the wild, or killed by hunters.

Alright - So the first one is a horseshoe crab, (I looked up some pictures on google, and it does indeed just look like it!) And then the second one... It does look like a spider crab...
