Crab Fossils, How Do You Know

I have seen lots of really cool crab fossils here that appear to have been chiseled out of rock. My question, how do you know there is a crab in the rock before you start scraping?

The shape of the concretion is the key, often there's a leg tip or a partial exposure when examined closely. Kidney bean shape is great, lemon shapes are good too. But, they could be inside weird shapes that often have a double.

Acording to this http://www.thefossilforum.com/index.php?/topic/64635-thoughts-on-this-crab-con/ they have a picture of the crab on the outside!

I would also think the location is just as important as the shape of the concretion. I can find rocks that look just like these crab concretions here in Wisconsin, but that doesn't mean there's one in there.

...I'm back.
