sixgill pete
I found these two teeth today in some matrix that I had brought back from a North Carolina Cretaceous Formation. This place is a river deposit with Black Creek Group Tarheel Formation and Bladen Formation. Also later Cretaceous PeeDee. It is known to contain dino material, I have personally found Hadrosauridae teeth and Plesiosauridae verts. It has also produced teeth from Pleisiosaurids. The first tooth I am 99.9% sure is Hadrisauridae ..... The second tooth is the one that has me excited. I am not sure it is dino, but I believe it is. It appears to me to be Theropod tooth, possibly Dryptosaur. But I am speculating on this and need your help. The tooth is a whopping 9 mm long. As the pics show it is serrated on the inside curved edge only. Help. Am I correct in this being theropod? If so, it is the first of its type that I know of from this location. 3 Bulldozers and dirt Bulldozers and dirt behind the trailer, my desert Them red clay piles are heaven on earth I get my rocks off, bulldozers and dirt Patterson Hood; Drive-By Truckers May 2016 May 2012 Aug 2013, May 2016, Apr 2020 Oct 2022

Troodon
Definitly a theropod tooth. Could be a Drypto but there are other theropods around. Great find Edited June 22, 2016 by Troodon

PaleoRon
Nice tooth. I have two hadrosaur teeth and a carnosaur tooth that I got in Elizabethtown, N.C. many years ago. The light colored tooth doesn't strike me as hadrosaur, but dinos are rare on the east coast so let's see what the dino guys from out west think. Ridgehiker
Hmmm? No, the first tooth doesn't appear to be a Hadrosaur tooth. That's not bad news as might be something rarer. The other is theropod. It wouldn't look out of place if found in our Late Cretaceous Oldman Formation...that's how theropod it looks. Quite the find for your part of the world. A super duper 'keeper'!
