Post Oak Creek Sherman, Tx. Finds For July

I had the chance to make it to Post Oak Creek 3 times this past month for a total of about 8 hours of fossil hunting. My favorite finds were the plethora of Ptychodus teeth. Found a couple of what I believe to be Ptychodus Mortini. The partially finished arowhead was also a cool find. It took me a couple minutes of looking at it to be sure of what I had found. I wonder what the story was? Found several roots and portions of what would have been huge teeth. Enjoy the pics!

Ptychodus teeth and some of the big broken ones. The Ptychodus teeth are far more impressive in person. The color and textures are not captured in these pics. I had to take them early this morning and the shadows and light were not optimal.

Thanks so much! I have done some trekking and have managed to find a few good spots where I rarely see other footprints! What's your guess with the unfinished point?

Wow, what an exciting haul!! Maybe the person who started that arrowhead decided that the material wasn't what it was cracked up to be? ^_^

It "might" be a hide scrapper. Depends on how it fits your hand. It is somewhat unfinished and not at all symmetrical that you would assume for an arrow/spear head.

Great finds. Did you also find any of the tiny ones you need a magnifying glass to see? I think that is what I like best from Post Oak Creek. Had someone tell me to take a bucket of the gravel home and look threw it for them with a magnifying glass. I did and couldn't believe how small they were. Looked like splinters to the naked eye. I put them in 1 of those little cube boxes with the magnifying glass on top, and showed it at a prospecting club meeting while I was in Wichita Falls a few years ago.

Very nice finds! I have an unfinished artifact in the same material I found at POC as well. My wife would argue it is one of my ancestors since they started a project and never completed it. You have a nice chunk of mosasaur bone too.

Lol Shoot, I have a hard enough time seeing the teeth I do find. The eyes just aren't what they used to be. I actually do way better when I take some weak readers with me but the excessive sweat makes it impossible to use them in the summer.

But to answer your question, yes, I have found many of the micro teeth. They are fascinating!

That's hilarious! Yes, yes... unfinished projects.

Found lots of nice chunks of bones on these trips.

Do you happen to have a pic of your unfinished artifact? I'd love to see it for comparative purposes.

Hey Koldsimer....you sure did find a hot spot. Nice finds.

Thanks Bud! Post oak has lots to offer for sure.

hmm. I'm DEFENANTLY no expert, but looks to me more like 1 that he messed up on, and then discarded it to start over with a new rock.

Fantastic. I love the Ptychodus. That is a species missing from the Cretaceous of N.C.

I was down in Post Oak Creek recently and found a tooth like the ones in your third set of pictures. What exactly are those from?  Here's mine....
