Perhaps next year you can plan your family vacation with Niagara Cave in mind, fossil hunting, perhaps cruising the Amish Community, and your kids would have a BLAST at Quarry Hill Nature Center in Rochester - and it has a fossilized quarry! Make it an educational science vacation. Oh and there is always Eagle Bluff Environmental Learning Center which has great activities: http://www.eagle-bluff.org/ Check out my blog under the "Tourism" catagory. I have a post with lots of links on things to do here that will satisfy any member of the family while you and your daughter fossil hunt. I think she would LOVE Wubbles Ravine! :-D The more I learn, I realize the less I know. Bev
Actually, it dries out very quickly. I've seen this a number of times over the years. That is why camping is only on high ground when heavy rain is predicted. :-D And now you know why I tie everything to trees down there! :-D The more I learn, I realize the less I know. Bev
The 24 hour difference today. Went fossil hunting at S-1 yesterday after the rain stopped. Creek was up there! Even the hidden stream beneath the bluff was flooding! But the drywash was scrubbed clean and filled with fossils! This large plate had just been exposed. Filled with Bryozoans! Continued... Bev
This beauty turned out to be a Maclurites crassus. Also a nice little cephalopod. And of course much more! 10 minute hunt but so much fun! The question was whether or not to go on down the wash to all that freshly exposed rock. :-) Another day... :-D The more I learn, I realize the less I know.
