DenBoy
I know this is only a fragment, I'm hesitant to say small piece (Would love to see how big the whole one would have been), Found washed up on Shanklin, I know its gault clay but I'm really struggling to find out what species this is, the ridges seem so spaced / wide compared to most examples I've checked in books or online please help a newbie
Fossildude19
I think we will need better pictures to make any determination - this is rather fuzzy, and I cannot make out any ammonite details. Please take pictures in bright outside sunlight, from multiple angles, with something in the picture for scale - measuring tape or ruler preferably. Placing the item on a flat surface is also helpful when taking pictures to reduce blur from hand movement. Max-fossils
Tim got it all right, better pictures are needed. Maybe take photos from different angles too, so that we have a better idea of the exact shape of the fossil. I'm no ammonite expert though, but many people on this forum are, so I suggest you take better pictures and post them, and then wait for the experts to kick in. Your find does seem very interesting though, I hope you will be able to get a ID! Best regards, Max Max Derème "I feel an echo of the lightning each time I find a fossil. DenBoy
Thanks guys, I'm in England in winter so " bright outside sunlight " is rare treat, but when I get a chance I'll try to get better pics & hopefully if funds permit a better camera soon
