GoExplore
Found this rock that appears to be shale. It also seems to have a fossil in it. It was found in southern Nevada. What is it?

westcoast
This looks like a chert nodule, not a fossil.
Ramon
It's geology. Cool find!!! "Without fossils, no one would have ever dreamed that there were successive epochs in the formation of the earth" - Georges Cuvier

Plax
the rock embedded in the host rock looks like a metamorphic or igneous clast. The parent rock looks like it has fossils in it though. Upper left and lower right of your first pic look like they show cross sections through fossils such as bivalves or brachopods and crinoids. Perhaps you can give us a closer look? Plax
have you tried giving the host rock a wack? Those surely are fossils of some sort in the non crystalline host rock. It's neat seeing a chunk of schist? enveloped in what looks like a limestone.
