ajnthony
This was found by my son today while we were fossil hunting at a local beach in Calvert County, MD along the Calvert Cliff formations. We are guessing a fossilized molar but not quite sure. Any help in identifying this piece is appreciated. Thanks.
Harry Pristis
I don't think this is a tooth. It appears to me to be an iron oxide nodule. 1 http://pristis.wix.com/the-demijohn-page What seest thou else In the dark backward and abysm of time? ---Shakespeare, The Tempest
ajnthony
After looking at a few examples of iron oxide nodules it certainly looks like that especially the orange looking color on the inside. Thanks for the help.
ajnthony
We were going off of this image from Calvert Marine Museum but after looking closer and looking at the bite pattern I'd have to agree with the iron nodule. Thanks again.
Oxytropidoceras
Even thought it is an iron oxide nodule, it should be kept as a great example of a pseudofossil.
ajnthony
Honestly, I had to look up the term pseudofossil. Now that I have, in the display case it goes with a good father and son fossil hunting trip story. Thanks.
Vieira
It´s a iron nodule without any doubt. Keep looking
