Benjaminpb
I have a question.....hopefully not a dumb one. I've been hunting for fossils here central Texas (Austin area) since I was a small child and I have never found a single shark tooth. Not a piece of one, not an imprint of one not a ghost of one.....Nothing!...Why? You'd think that with all the marine fossils everywhere you'd find sharks teeth while walking the family dog or checking the mail. Sooooo, why? Am I looking in the wrong spots? Any ideas? Fruitbat
Benjaminpb... I haven't done a lot of exploring around the Austin area but up here in the Dallas area I have found that shark teeth are relatively rare in the white limestone layers in general but are significantly more common in the gray-colored shale layers, especially at the interface between the limestone and shale layers. I'm sure that some of our members who are more familiar with the Austin area can give you more specific information but I just wanted to share my own experience. -Joe 4 Illigitimati non carborundum Fruitbat's PDF Library
