Thanks!

Welcome to the Forum. :)

Can we see a picture of the whole block?

My first impression is that it is a Knightia eocaena from the Green River Formation in Wyoming.

A good look at the slab it's on might tell us more.

Thanks!

That is what I was thinking as well, but I am super new to this so I have no clue. :)

Here is a pic of the whole block.

This one is a bit rough around the edges, ... but I like the character this one has.

The slab does look like Green River Formation shale/limestone. A bit unfinished looking, ... but still very cool.

I like the way his vertebrae are accordioned together. :)

It does look like Knightia to me too. How big is the fish?

Looking forward to meeting my fellow Singaporean collectors! Do PM me if you are a Singaporean, or an overseas fossil-collector coming here for a holiday!

That is indeed a Knightia eocaena

It isn't in the greatest shape in the world, but far from the worst!

It is indeed from the Green River Formation in Kemmerer, WY.

It is Eocene (52mya) or so!

Given that you found it at an estate sale I would venture a guess that it came from the old Warfield Springs Quarry which is now closed.

Pretty nice find, Congrats! :)

Thanks everyone! This one is just about 3 inches. I have always loved these fossils, so I was pretty happy to score these (there are a few total). We also got some fossilized teeth, bones, and trilobites so it was one of my favorite estate cleanouts.

We are actually going to Wyoming this summer and will be going to either Fossil Safari or Pisces Prehistoric to hopefully dig up some of our own. :)

I will HIGHLY recommend  Pisces Prehistoric. It is run by one of our forum members who will help you out non-stop.

Green River formation is where I dig as well so if you let me know when you are going maybe we can meet up!

I recommend Pisces prehistoric too, but call them first. (Number in their web site). They have lost their lease on the quarry.  they will still be digging for two years so you will have to work out a deal with them.
