My son and I found this while looking for fossils on our stone fence. We are located in Baileys Harbor Wisconsin. Can anyone tell us what we've found? Thank you.

They possibly look like the inside of brachiopod shells to me, but honestly, are much too worn/weathered to tell anything aside from the fact that they may have been something.

There seems to be a couple more on the other side. My eight-year-old is thrilled that at one time this was something. I believe we have a new hobby!

I agree that they are very weathered brachiopod shells.  The linear structure up the middle suggests that they may be from a group of brachiopods called "pentamerids", after the most prominent genus Pentamerus (but there are other genera as well).  Pentamerid brachiopods are characteristic of some Silurian aged marine limestones and dolomites, and I believe there is a lot of Silurian exposed in parts of Wisconsin.

I really don't know what to say on this, but one is sure, the matrix is full of crinoid remains, mostly tiny columnals.
