I have this tooth, and I was wondering if it is a false mako tooth. I haven't really seen anything like it in my guide except for a false mako.

I'm sorry, but this tooth doesn't look like a P. benedeni to me. The root of P. benedeni teeth is usually 'fatter' and a little broader. Still a nice tooth though!

Could this tooth have once exhibited lateral cusplets which are now broken off??

I am thinking Otodus, missing both cusps.

I believe you are correct. With the color, the way the root looks and that it does appear there are broken off cusps. I think it is a Moroccan Otodus like the other one pictured.

On one side I saw evidence of a cusplet, but I'm unsure about the state of the other. Looking at it from the front the broken-off cusplet is on the right.

if one side shows that, then there was one on the other side. where did you get the tooth?

Someone was selling loose teeth as well as teeth in packages. The one I bought was loose, but the packaged ones were from Morocco and didn't have broken cusplets, so I would assume this one is also from Morocco.
