Mystery flat area on hash plate

What is that flat'ish darker area upper mid left, has ridges?

Looks skin-like to me, I know it's not but I'm curious.

Thanks

We could use another picture from directly above the fossil, rather than at an oblique angle, ... and without so much contrast - daylight, but not direct sunlight. :)

My first guess from this photo would be some type of bryozoan - there is another next to it to the right.

I can see that, but the detail is lacking.

Could you take the picture from above, ... looking directly down on the item?

And what is the size of the item?

And where was it found?

6 inches X 3 inches

about the size of my LC smartphone.

It's packed away behind junk in my garage, can't get to it.

The fossil is that big, or the matrix?

Thanks Rockwood.

I was just gonna say maybe a scrunched up section of Sulcoretepora Bryozoas?

From what Fossildude said and so I looked up "flat bryozoans" and found this link from Views of the Mahantango

Maybe Emmonsia then?

Careful, I think the similarity seen here is more in the presentation than anything diagnostic.
