harfordmike
I found what appears to be a fish vertebrae last week on the beach. I was wondering if it is a fossil and if any one had any idea what the size of the fish it would have come from. To me it seems like it had to be a nice size fish. Plax
is it from the recently renourished beach in Brunswick County? Different beaches have variously aged fossils depending on where the dredge material comes from.
ynot
It is a fish vert and does look like it maybe lithified to some degree. You can try the burn test to see if it smells like burnt hair (not fossil) or no smell (fossil). Just hold a lighter or match under the edge. Darwin said: " Man sprang from monkeys." Will Rogers said: " Some of them didn't spring far enough." My Fossil collection - My Mineral collection My favorite thread on TFF.
