Shark Tooth Hunter
So I had just posted on this forum a few hours ago and that reminded me of one more thing I've been longing to figure out. Does anyone know what fish this vertabrae belongs to? It's the most complete and intact fish vert I've ever found, so I think it's important I get some info on it! Thanks, Conor
CBOB
Can't help with the ID but that's a sweet find
Max-fossils
Cool find! Unfortunately, I don't think it's possible to ID your fish vert to species/genus... It's definitely from the Teleostei, the bony fish, but more specific than that I don't know if it's possible. The problem is that there are so many different species of Teleostei, many of which look really alike, that it's nearly impossible to narrow the ID down, as complete as the vert may be. Therefore, I would keep this vert as Teleostei indet. for now... Yet, this vert does have a weird shape, which could be specific to a certain family in the bony fishes. Maybe someone from the area would know more about it. Still a nice find nonetheless! Best regards, Max Max Derème "I feel an echo of the lightning each time I find a fossil. But thanks for narrowing it down. Either way I'm still pretty happy with it.
