Bone from Flag Ponds

Recommended Posts

I forgot that I found this piece of fossilized bone at Flag Ponds on my last trip. I don't know if there is enough to get an id from. Any ideas?

Was this found on the beach at Flag Ponds? Looks like a bird femur, can you get better lit photos of the broken interior and the remaining joint? With a scale reference?

The walls look to thick and the marrow is too dense to be a bird.

Not sure about the size though as there is no reference in the pictures.

Darwin said: " Man sprang from monkeys."

Will Rogers said: " Some of them didn't spring far enough."

Agreed. Looks more likely a marine mammal to me.

@Darktooth

You could email photos, with a scale, from each angle to Dr. Godfrey at Calvert Marine Museum. His email is available on their website. Dave Bohaska at the Smithsonian is another good resource.

Both are pretty good about responding to email inquiries.

These look quite similar... It's from a different fossil ID post.

Perhaps it is just a coincidence any thoughts? (First image found in Central FL)
