acunnin3
Hi! I went collecting out in Mazonia and threw my finds in the freezer to freeze/thaw them. This is what was inside when one of them cracked open. I have never been fossil collecting before, so I ~really~ have no idea what this is. Any ideas? acunnin3
I've done some searching since I've been at work, and I think it may be a sea cucumber? I'm really just very curious about this whole thing, as the other concretions I've found have been empty.
fossilized6s
You are correct! It is a Sea Cucumber. RyanDye
The specimen in question looks to be a concentration possibly iron. Fossils have been found in this type of rock. I cannot identify the specific fossil or, if there are fossils at all, however if this is ironstone concentration more than likely there are fossils. Also the first reference is only for the rock the fossil inside of the concentration is more than likely not what you have found. The third image is a sea cucumber your hypothesis is not that unlikely do not take my word for that it is a sea cucumber. I hope this was of some use to you, cool find. 6 minutes ago, fossilized6s said: You are correct! It is a Sea Cucumber. Nice. Nimravis
I also agree with @fossilized6s - your find is a sea cucumber.
