Elaina
Hello, I found this shark tooth on the beach while on vacation in Sea Isle City, New jersey. It appears to be very old and light in weight. Can anyone identify? Thank you!
Max-fossils
Hi Elaina, to !!! Huh, that's a funny one. The second picture kinda looks like a worn shark tooth, but on the first one you can clearly see bone structure (you can recognize the porous structure). So I'd put it down as a piece of bone. Keep on fossil hunting, and you will surely find a cool shark tooth soon! Best regards, Max 1 Max Derème "I feel an echo of the lightning each time I find a fossil. Miocene_Mason
That's a bone, but what a toothy lookin bone! I'd keep it just for that! “...whilst this planet has gone cycling on according to the fixed law of gravity, from so simple a beginning endless forms most beautiful and most wonderful have been and are being evolved.” ~ Charles Darwin Happy hunting, Mason
Fossildude19
I agree with bone - maybe a deer hoof core? Macrophyseter
As everyone said, unfourtunatly that is not a shark tooth, but probably a very worn bone fragment. The second picture can be quite misleading because the lighter section looks like enamel, but the entire thing looks naturally porous. Have you ever seen a naturally porous tooh? Still a decent find, and good luck on hunting shark teeth! If you're a fossil nut from Palos Verdes, San Pedro, Redondo Beach, or Torrance, feel free to shoot me a PM!
