Story69
I'd love to know what this might be. So if anyone has any ideas, please offer them up. It was found around Giddings, Texas near a whole lot of petrified wood. The consistent response is that it's a small piece of a very worn mammoth tooth, but I just don't think so. The middle of it seems to have a flint-like quality. Thanks.
ynot
I think it is a piece of banded chert. They will weather to form the surface texture because some of the bands are more susceptible to erosion than others. Darwin said: " Man sprang from monkeys." Will Rogers said: " Some of them didn't spring far enough." My Fossil collection - My Mineral collection My favorite thread on TFF.
Miocene_Mason
Beat me to it, banded chert. “...whilst this planet has gone cycling on according to the fixed law of gravity, from so simple a beginning endless forms most beautiful and most wonderful have been and are being evolved.” ~ Charles Darwin Happy hunting, Mason
