Plax
Worn too much to say for sure but I'm no expert. Would say bone from a lag deposit. The Black Creek is a group of formations but saying it came from the Tarheel, Bladen or Donoho Creek Formation wouldn't help with the ID. Also; keep in mind that some of the "Black Creek" fossils can be reworked and accompanied by Eocene , Pliocene or Pleistocene fossils depending on where you collect. Around Goldsboro there are Eocene fossils mixed in the lag for instance. In Lumberton there are Pliocene or early Pleistocene fossils in the mixed lag.
ynot
Welcome to TFF! Could be a whale tooth(?). Lets see what @Boesse thinks about it. 1 Darwin said: " Man sprang from monkeys." sixgill pete
As Plax said, the Black Creek is a group, not a formation. It consists of the Cretaceous Tarheel, Bladen and Donoho Creek Formations. Also as he said these are often lag deposits mixed in with deposits from other ages. The site around Goldsboro is a great example, in one screen you can have dinosaur material, Cretaceous shark teeth long with Eocene Castle Hayne shells and teeth. To me it does appear to be a worn piece of bone. RJB
Bone for sure, but what it is, I do not know. Interesting though. RB
