Fruit , pine cone ?

Sure looks like some kind of cone to me.

unfortunately the layer is very thin and not possible to prepare on both sides by experience !

That tends to favor Tony's idea, but they still look like preservations of tougher bracts to me. Is there precedent for soft tissue preservation at the site ?

Yes there are insects , medusae , pine and fishes
