Jpac
I recently was going through my rock collection from when I was a kid. I have a fossil that looks like a mushroom, but I know this is near to impossible. Found in Dixon Illinois on my families land that was a retired farm over 25 years ago. Any insight??? Jpac
In the hole you see in 2nd and third pic there are striated lines that you would expect to see under a mushrooms cap....
westcoast
I'm thinking chert nodule that happens to look like a mushroom.
Jpac
Ok, nice:) I really am an amateur, but it does look like that's what this could be. Thanks for your insight!
Rockwood
There are fungi fossils, but a cap like this would be extremely rare. As such it would require evidence that was equally exceptional. Sorry, but I don't see it here.
Fossildude19
Welcome to the Forum. + 1 for chert nodule. Not a mushroom fossil. Keep looking.
