We made it thru unscathed somehow..may have some leaks somewhere but right now things only initiallly look roughed up but OK. I was just trying to pass some extra time waiting for this weather event to pass. Hope you avoided the craziness during the evac and most of this mess and when you get back you have minimal damage. Hope everyone else effected is ok. Lots of folks in the TX/LA areas effected horribly by the last one over that way and this one slapped us Floridians around. Mother nature is a significantly powerful force in all of our lives. Regards, Chris

Thanks John, looks like the colors washed out on this resized image from my phone. It was a stunning little critter. Hope this weather doesnt significantly effect you all up there--looks like you are getting the brunt of it now. Be safe. Good luck on the next hunt! Initial looks are ok. Back at the house and out of the shelter! We are one of the very fortunate ones. Keeping everyone in out thoughts and prayers...this was another very bad storm in the hurricane season. Regards, Chris
abyssunder
Here's a storm right now in Timisoara, Romania, a heavy storm which cames from south, that means from the Mediterranean/Adriatic region, but not comparable in any ways with the hurricanes from USA, although there were hurricanes in Romania in the last years, which is very strange for this region. I'm really sorry to hear about what happened there, but I'm glad you're ok now, Chris. If there's any way I can help you, just let me know. Those are excellent finds. I pretty much like the proboscidean tusk clearly revealing the Schreger lines. It looks to be a mammoth tusk according to the Schreger angles less than 95 degrees. picture imported from here: 2 " We are not separate and independent entities, but like links in a chain, and we could not by any means be what we are without those who went before us and showed us the way. Lots of folks around here in really bad shape and we are very very fortunate that the hurricane wobbled and the worst went around and to the east of us--being in the center of the state was also a blessing as it lost alot of intensity as it traveled up the western peninsula. I think over half of the state lost power at one point this morning (6million folks) and the number without is still very significant. My sister and her community has been without since last night. Its not good. Folks over in Texas and vicinity are still in a world of hurt from the earlier hurricane. Lots of serious weather out there to deal with all over the US and the planet. You be very safe! Same best thoughts/wishes to everyone else. Regards, Chris

sixgill pete
Chris, glad to see all is well. Having been through more hurricanes than I care to remember, it is always an anxious time. B.T.W. that is a great tusk. Did you do any fossil hunting on Oahu? There are places you can find Pleistocene teeth, mollusks and bird material. We are doing very well considering. Lots of folks much worse off and millions still without power. I've been doing OK looking for things after work as that seems to be the only free time for fossiling and the trip to Hawaii was outstanding...Got to the Volcano National park and see volcanism up close and personal again. Only saw redhot lava from a distance but the craters, crater lakes and steam vents and other features were awesome. The wife was a trooper and we went into the Thurstone lava tubes. Plantguy
She put up with going in the cavelike lava tubes but when I wanted to go on the lava lake where these folks were--lets just say that didnt happen---...LOL.. This was quite a week as all effected are no doubt feeling and will continue to deal with for a long while if not a lifetime. So I didnt go fossil hunting in Oahu..I was thinking about it but as embarrassing as this sounds we took brand new snorkel gear and didnt even use it as we were doing so many other things! We went to palaces, the aquarium, the zoo, old churches, botanical gardens, antique hunting and palace visiting and then there was some food and adult beverages and places we visited many years ago to see how things had changed. Just ran out of time. Maybe next time! Regards, Chris
