CBOB
Hey Everybody! Happy new year! So my wife and I went down to Florida for a week to spend the holidays with my mother in law who lives in Cape Coral. We spent a few days around Christmas on the Peace River canoeing and fossil hunting. The weather was great and the river gave up some of her bounty. The river was only about 12 inches below normal which was a little higher than I am used to but I'm not complaining. The higher water makes it harder to dig deeper when the water was already up to my chest in some spots but we managed to pull out some good stuff. Here's the bounty. I am also going to post some items in the ID section that I would need some help with so check out that post too if anyone can help. Thanks and enjoy! Shark teeth. I know just a fragalodon but look at the size of that tooth! Shark teeth. I did well with megs this trip! I actually pulled up my sifter on a dig and had 2 megs in it! That was a first for me Some interesting staining shapes on this tooth's enamel. From what?? Gator scutes, turtle, horse teeth, ray dermal scutes, puffer mouth plate, clam cast, and some mammal bones I believe this bone chunk has some predation teeth grooves on it?? Nice tortoise spur, manatee vert, turtle, horse teeth, middle pic is a drum jaw section, puffer mouthparts, alligator teeth, ray teeth, mammal bone pieces This stuff all came from one hole I was digging in. Lots of ivory pieces, mammoth tooth piece, toe bone?, vert?, whale tooth?, and large piece of bone. Lots of tusk pieces. I was hoping my shovel would scoop out a nice piece of tusk but did not. I will be going back to that spot later in the season. Saw a lot of big gators on the river on this trip too. This was a big one! Thanks for lookin!

Miocene_Mason
Awesome finds! The meg stains are weird, at first I thought barnacle attachment points, but the serrations are very find to have been in the sea too long. Maybe Just iron staining that emenates from a nucleus point. Whatever it is, it’s cool looking! “...whilst this planet has gone cycling on according to the fixed law of gravity, from so simple a beginning endless forms most beautiful and most wonderful have been and are being evolved.” ~ Charles Darwin Happy hunting, Mason
Shellseeker
I love it when a visitor does well on the Peace River. Congratulations on some great finds!!! I recognize the gator and the bank he is resting on... They are bite marks on the bone. I think I also recognize 3 whale teeth.... Horizontal bands are tells... Good point regarding the amount of energy that might be required to dislodge them vs tooth condition. They do have the look of iron oxide stains that have formed around a nucleus. One has concentric banding supporting this hypothesis.
Doctor Mud
Amazing finds too by the way. finding any meg would be a trip maker. They are so rare down here.
MeargleSchmeargl
That bone sure looks like it has predation marks. I found a whale vert day before yesterday that had very similar marks on it (which is probably why a good hunk of the vert was missing, lol). Nice haul! Every single fossil you see is a miracle set in stone, and should be treated as such.

digit
Looks like you put in a lot of effort because you were rewarded with some really nice stuff. Glad that the river was (barely) at the right level so you could get out and hunt. Cheers. -Ken

CBOB
Thanks everyone! It was a great trip. We all had a great time out on the river. A great place to spend the holiday season! Hey @jcbshark Here's a close up of that almost perfect meg. Nice serrations, color, and quality. Just a small amount of enamel wear near the bourlette. But I'm not complaining!
