Brett Breakin' Rocks

Hello everyone .... sometimes shark teeth turn up in the most unusual places.

My son and I went out for a movie at the local AMC theater in Savannah, GA to see Peter Rabbit.  While we waited for our ride my son and I tooled around the parking lot picking up the usual suspects ... rocks and acorns oh my !  He commented about the large oyster shells in the mix and I said .. yeah, oyster shells can be pretty common and cheap, they dredge them up from the bottom of the ocean.

Look, see these quartz pebbles they come from the same spot.

Wait ----> is that a shark tooth ?

Yep. Bleached by the sun .. staring right at me.

All cleaned up ....

I love this sort of find.

But then we spend a lot of the time staring at the ground and rocks rather than at other people or the sky, I suppose.

And we have an eye for what's a fossil.

Great find. :)

Indeed .. though I do have bouts of 'Head in Clouds', but oftentimes that strikes me at work.

Otherwise my nose is to the ground.....  Tooth !! .. no ... just a pointy potato chip.  Matrix ! ... nope again, just a bag of pebbles for the garden.  haha.

Cool surprise find!

Right ? .. we don't normally get any decent dredge material in town.  You have to go out to the dirt roads to the south for that ...

Nice tooth. here in eastern North Carolina especially the central and southern cost many gravel lots are full of shark teeth. However not to many of them like yours. Maybe Peter pulled this one up out of his rabbit hole.

Well now I’m conflicted! I guess I’ll have to try both, and then if that fails I might actually have to look for sharks teeth, like, On a beach! Like a Neanderthal or something....

:P

Nice Find!  Wonder how long it was sitting there?

Good Question .. the color may have been leached out by the sun or groundwater ... not sure.  I've found a couple fossil shark teeth like this (not so large) on the Tybee Island beaches with white enamel.  We just had a discussion a few weeks back on shark teeth almost devoid of color.

Cheers,

B
