Ludwigia
The snow had melted back enough in the lowlands that I could venture out to the Danube Valley yesterday in order to try my luck again in the infamous ditch at the side of the road. There was an awful lot of slipped-down overburden to clear out of the way and it also took a while chipping away at the exposure, so my battery was on the wane before I finally found a little pocket with a few retrievable fossils just before darkness set in. Most of what I found wandered into the trade or sell box, but this one here is reserved for my collection. Discosphinctoides sp. 10cm. 8 Greetings from the Lake of Constance. Miocene_Mason
A true fossil hunter, hunched over in a ditch somewhere chipping at a tiny patch of stone! Bravo on the prep, an amazing job indeed! “...whilst this planet has gone cycling on according to the fixed law of gravity, from so simple a beginning endless forms most beautiful and most wonderful have been and are being evolved.” ~ Charles Darwin Happy hunting, Mason

And it really is heavy, being a thick-walled calcitized steinkern. It took about 3 hours worth of abrading with a bit of digging out the center with the air scribe.
