Spinosaurus complete except for gastralia.

Thanks to @Abstraktum I got a new project.

The basis is the same T-rex toy I used for my Nanotyrannus. Its ridiculous I have to shorten the Arms of a T-rex. On the other hand it is astonishing how massive the shoulder girdle of this guy is.

Instead of reshaping every single vertebra I am going to try and subtly change the general shape.

Best regards

Ahoi.

Often I use cheap toys of variable quality as a basis for my modified skeletons.

Not this time.

It is my pleasure to modify the beautifully made Epidexipteryx by @lormouth in order to represent the astonishing recent discoverys in the family of Scansoriopterygidae.

Merci for letting me take part in your palaeoart!

Aloha,

J

Hello again,

I just built the missing finger. Interestingly, the proportions of the smaller two fingers (when compared to each other and for example the skull) remained nearly unchanged between Epidexipteryx and Yi Qui, while just one finger changed dramatically.

The Drawings I refer to come from this article in nature:

Cheers,

J

Well, I remember saying "I should wait with this project till after my exams"

That is why it is not completely finished now three days later.

In this reconstruction I imagine Yi to fold its wings around an insect prey (not yet visible) and preparing for landing quadrupedally (not visible either) as a bat or flying squirrel would.

Cheers

Nearly done!

Now it just needs less cyborg-like forearms and some accessoires like insect prey and a nice branch to land on.

The fingers I made are drooping a bit (maybe wrong material). And the two styliform elements are pointing in different directions.

Apart from that, I am quite happy with the pose.

What do you think?

Aloha,

J

It is fullfilled!

The lighting and perspective is not perfect to show the details, but the mood is apropriate.

Please tell me what you think!

Aloha!

I proudly present a fossil forum joint venture:

@lormouth wonderful Epidexipteryx, and my version of Yi qui based on the same set of bones.

Epidexipteryx Osteology: lormouth

Feathers, pose and and wing adaptations for Yi qui : mahnmut

Insect prey: mahnmut

Putting the legs on the right way around: lormouth

Bad photomontage because I am not yet used to Gimp instead of Photoshop: mahnmut

What do you think?

Thanks Kane!

I should also give credit to Emily Willoughby, whose illustration (for example on Wiki "Yi Qui) inspired me.

I imagined it in the last moments of gliding down though rather than actively flying.

Thanks!

Boy, I don't know how I missed this thread, but your models are freaking amazing.  They way they are made, natural configurations and the poses you put them in are fantastic. Kudos.  Like someone else asked above, do you sell any of your models?

Thanks Steve!

From all of you, I need some advice.

I just got hold of another Glencoe Brontosaurus, a nineties remake of an original 1959 model.

Strangely there seems to be no  modern medium quality sauropod model on the market, there are beautiful museal models for some hundred euros and small toys that are so badly made that I cannot even use them as a basis for improvement (unbelievably).

That  vintage model fills this gap, but I am reluctant to use it in my usual way because, well, there seem to be not so many around these days.

I plan to make a Bajadasaurus based on Amargasaurus.

What do you think?

Best Regards,

J
