Malone
It's probably already been thought of, but I thought it would cool to hide fossils for the kids.

The most precise term has yet to be tested at least on these. I was just thinking about something I thought would good for the kids. I just said jasper because it's a more encompassing term. Jasper is supposed to mean speckled rock. I am sure there's several different forms of rock that would fall in that category. They usually name jasper from the location because the term is so broad. Malone
Yeah this is when all the fresh eggs are available, used to be. Now you don't have to hunt for them, you can hunt them down at most any grocery store. It's a neat tradition though. And a celebration of life. ynot
Happy easter to all. @Malone Although jasper can be "speckled" that does not mean any speckled rock is a jasper. From wiki.... Jasper, an aggregate of microgranular quartz and/or chalcedony and other mineral phases,[1][2] is an opaque,[3] impure variety of silica, usually red, yellow, brown or green in color; and rarely blue. The common red color is due to iron(III) inclusions. The mineral aggregate breaks with a smooth surface and is used for ornamentation or as a gemstone. It can be highly polished and is used for vases, seals, and snuff boxes. The specific gravity of jasper is typically 2.5 to 2.9.[4] A green variety with red spots, known as heliotrope (bloodstone), is one of the traditional birthstones for March. Jaspilite is a banded iron formation rock that often has distinctive bands of jasper. The pieces You posted above are granitic rock that has been tumbled (in a creek) to obtain the egg like shape.
