Dave Corner
This 3" specimen was collected out of the Mazon Creek itself, near the Benson Farm. It was collected around 1998 and filed as Problematica. We are finally starting to identify these specimens. It is our specimen number S00051. At first, we thought it might be a shrimp similar to Kellibrooksia Macrogaster, but there isn't much evidence of the proper segmentation, and no legs. Fossildude19
Hello, and Welcome to the Forum. I can't help with an ID, but there are several members here who could. I'll tag them here, and maybe they will pop in and take a look. Welcome, again. digit
Problematica is right (but then a lot of my Mazon Creek fossils find their way into this bucket with my limited experience in the more unusual items found in this famous Lagerstätte). I'm following your reasoning and it seems sound but I think we'll have to wait till the MC heavyweights chime in on this. I'll be as interested as you in learning what they have to say. Cheers. -Ken
Auspex
Ummm, OK, don't write this in India Ink, but something like Lamphry is what came to my mind. 1 "There has been an alarming increase in the number of things I know nothing about." - Ashleigh Ellwood Brilliant “Try to learn something about everything and everything about something.” - Thomas Henry Huxley >Paleontology is an evolving science. >May your wonders never cease! Nimravis
Well looking at this on my I-Phone, I am thinking a poorly preserved Acanthotelson shrimp. Let’s see what others think.
RCFossils
Hi Dave, It is definitely a shrimp. There is not much detail but my guess is Belotelson.
abyssunder
I was sure that I see "flaps" on one end, but wasn't sure about the other end. Now I'm convinced. Dave Corner
Thanks for the quick and considered replies, one and all. We'll try to do our best to help, as well. As for S00051, the research continues...
