Littlefoot
These two imprints were found at Stratford Hall, Virginia, last July. I had a pickle of a time photographing them so the impression would show up, especially as on one of them, the imprint is pretty faint. I was wondering if anyone could verify if these are fossils, and if so, can anyone identify just what exactly these are imprints of? Thank you for any thoughts you might have! Fossildude19
These look crabby - decapod-ish - arthropod-ish, to me. Maybe @Al Dente or @Plax might have some ideas. 5 Tim - VETERAN SHALE SPLITTER VFOTM --- APRIL - 2015 __________________________________________________ "In every walk with nature one receives far more than he seeks." ynot
From the looks of those, You have pieces of concretions that contained crabs. Nice find. Now You need to look for a whole concretion with a crab in it. 3 Darwin said: " Man sprang from monkeys." Will Rogers said: " Some of them didn't spring far enough." Plax
am with the others re crab concretion. In future visits I'd look for similarly shaped/colored concretions and crack them to see if they contain more complete crabs. Sometimes a bit of crab will be peaking out around an edge so you can prep at home instead of with the hammer.
Littlefoot
Thank you so much @Fossildude19, @Auspex, @ynot, and @Plax ! Plax -- that's great advice to look for similar concretions! I'll do that the next time I visit Stratford!
MeargleSchmeargl
Looks like you're getting really crabby today. Every single fossil you see is a miracle set in stone, and should be treated as such.
