Cretaceous teeth

Amazing Relics

Recommended Posts

I have 6 teeth I’d like to ID here. I think #1 might be a Pectinodon Anterior Dentary tooth but not sure. They were found mostly in the Hell Creek near Jordan, Mt. but some were from the Judith River Formation. The guy who found them just put them all together so I don’t have exact geology unfortunately.

I can’t get any closer to these tiny teeth to get pics of the denticles. I know that might be helpful in identification.

This is my first ID post so take it easy on me if I didn’t do it right :)

If anyone needs additional photos of any of the teeth from another angle or isolated, I can do that.

Thanks for looking.

1 looks like a Troodontid, Pectinodon is from Hell creek, so it is a possibility, all the others (except 3) look like Tyrannosaurids. Without exact location it's not possible to give the a species or genus name. Judith river Tyrannosaurids are either Gorgosaurus or Daspletosaurus. Hell creek are Tyrannosaurus or Nanotyrannus. 3 is probably croc.

Welcome to the forum

1 ) Is a Pectinodon bakkeri its an anterior dentary tooth (Hell Creek Fm)

2) looks like a Dromaeosaurid but you need to do a serration density check and see if the mesial and distal are different, need a closeup picture straight on shot

3) looks like a Richarardoestesia isosceles but really need a closeup picture straight on shot

The others are tyrannosaurids but need closeup pictures of 4 and 5

Edit: Let me add that if the Denticles have the same density on both edges its probably an anterior Tyrannosaurid tooth.  Why its important to verify.

Troodon, thanks so much for your input. I just tried messing with my camera and the editing tools for #4&5. I’m going to work on my camera skills and try again.

Thanks, These are Tyrannosaurid teeth images are fine.  If from HC Nanotyrannus not Rex.

I’m in agreement with @Troodon’s identifications

Always appreciate a second set of eyes from someone who know how to ID teeth
