Jdean0003
I found this laying next to a tree on my land in Northwest Arkansas. I can’t say that i have ever seen anything quite like it. You guys have any idea what it could be?
ynot
Welcome to TFF! This looks like an iron concretion. They are often mistaken for fossils. 1 Darwin said: " Man sprang from monkeys." Ludwigia
It would certainly help if we could learn more about the exact geographical location and the local stratigraphy, because I'm seeing a possible phragmocone of a belemnite or orthocone nautilus here in this iron. 1 Greetings from the Lake of Constance. I agree, internal moulds of two chambers. Tarquin
Rockwood
I have collected similarly nested concretions that were obviously not though. It may be helpful to determine which direction the bedding runs to determine if there may have been a surface which was preferentially preserved. Jdean0003
Location is approximately 3 miles northwest of Rudy, Arkansas. Elevation is 900 ft. This piece if rock had been previously disturbed and turned up by dozer work.
ynot
In the new picture I can see what looks like an ammonite on the top right of the larger piece. This has the same type of preservation as the larger piece, so @Ludwigia is probably correct, notaloid for the larger piece. 2 Darwin said: " Man sprang from monkeys." Rockwood
Agreed. Looks like a neck and siphuncle there.
