Bone guy
I have this little chunk of trike bone here. I got it a while back and it was labeled as nothing more than a trike bone. I took some time and I noticed something strange. When I look at the bone from one side I see two halves, each with a different bone density. One of my pictures shows this. My suspicion is that the denser side of this bone is the external side of a triceratops head shield piece. The side that is more porous is the internal side of the shield. Are my suspicions correct? doushantuo
The parietal frill has periods of (non-pathological!)hyperostosis(early in ontogeny) and bone resorption later in the life of the animal, the resorption resulting in fenestrae. (am thinking Horner/Lamm,here)
doushantuo
This is prolly in several libraries here(free access): Major_cranial_changes_during_Triceratops_ontogeny.pdf 0,7 Mb-ish
Troodon
Could be a piece of frill would like to see a bit more veining. Not sure you can determine what ceratopsian it's from or if a parietal or squasomal frill. Do you happen to have a locality where this was found.
Bone guy
@Troodon Hell Creek is the only info on locality I have.
Troodon
Okay so it might be a Triceratops species or one of the other Cerstopsians.
Haravex
This might be slightly off topic but to save creating a new one does anyone have an pictures of hadrosaur, ceratopsian or any of these category of dinosaur bone cross section of bones or worn pieces to give an idea of the internal structure to look through the 25 kg of random kem kem bones I have. jpc
I would say quite likely ceratopsian. I see enough texture/veination on the external surface in the first photo.
