Interesting stingray find on the peace river

Recommended Posts

Conner8484

Hello everyone been ages since I’ve visited this site so I figure I’d share a trip I went on Saturday. I went out with a good buddy of mine and a guy I haven’t met before to try Peace River. We put in at Wauchula and went a few miles from the boat ramp in our canoes. After a few hours of digging we found some interesting stuff I’ll include pics of what I found . This is probably my favorite find of the day, a giant stingray plate chunk, anyone ever see any like that?

The bars on that 'ray plate partial are enormous! Thicker than your finger! I'd love to see it extrapolated to estimate the full size.

Great finds especially the giant ray plate. Please tell me what animal donated the vertebrae? in the bottom left side of the picture of all the finds. I would greatly appreciate that info. Found something somewhat similar while beach combing at the Outer banks, NC last week. Very unusual for fossils to be found there.

Bottom left of the last picture is just a junk ring I found, send me a pic of the vertebrae and I can probably help

a giant stingray plate chunk,

Nice finds!

Wondering if this could be a turtle plastron?

The one side looks like the inside of bone and it seems very large compared to any ray tooth plate pieces I have seen.

What do You think @Tidgy's Dad?

Stingray tooth plate for me.

Like this one also from the Peace River

Cownose Ray- articulated crusher or grinding plate. Miocene Epoch, 3-3/4" wide x 2-3/4" tall, Peace River, DeSoto County, Fla.

@Conner8484 Sorry It took me longer to get the picture. This vertebrae? was found on the beach at the Outer Banks, NC. To remind you I had thought in your finds picture that  you had found something similar but it turns out it was a ring. Perhaps you can id my find. It looks like bone and what I thought was a vertebrae. It was unusual indents on both sides on the outside circumference and then the straight long piece extending out horizontally. Any thought will be appreciated. Thanks  Will have to attach additional pics.
