Aurelius
I recently acquired two bits of bone which I would appreciate any thoughts on. Before I go further, my guesses are crocodile and fish. So, here's the first one, a piece of jaw with the remains of two visible sockets and a piece of tooth still within the jaw. The two dark areas at the top are the sockets. Got to be crocodile, I assume? I don't think I've seen one with such a broad, flat area surrounding the teeth though. Here's the side view, showing the sloping sockets and the broken tooth. The bottom This side appears to have been attached to something. As you look at this picture, the teeth would have emerged from the top, along the other side. This item is more puzzling. I think I may have seen something like it before. It has the look of something fishy to me. The underside. As always, any thoughts would be appreciated. Haravex
Can you take any close up pictures of the tooth? I would lean towards crocodile for the moment however.

All I can do at the moment is provide this close-up of the same shot above, but I will take another shot tomorrow. The teeth sockets are deeply slanted within the bone, like this, so I don't know if that helps with identification.
LordTrilobite
Id say croc for that jaw. And I agree with that other part being something fishy. 1 Olof Moleman AKA Lord Trilobite
Aurelius
I'm thinking crocodile too, but it must have been a big beast, since the bone would have been at least two inches thick. The fish bit is interesting though. I was hoping someone might recognise it, since it's such a distinctive shape.

Thanks, I really can see this bone fitting in on the lower jaw somewhere towards the snout. Even the scale seems spot on.
