Maybe I will go back sometime. That is an awesome collection you found! You know, They have boat charters that are leaving almost every day down in Savannah ... for fossil 'tours'. I'd say after taking one myself that they are a bit pricey for what most of us are expecting (or able to afford) but ultimately it is a great way to educate yourself about the local geology and familiarize yourself with the look and feel of the fossiliferous material. Brett Breakin' Rocks
I'm back in town from Portland so I decided to just keep this Savannah thread going. Yes, I was barely recovered from the midnight flight and a bit of jetlag. I decided getting some sun, and plenty of heat and humidity was in order. Started slow but had a great day. Some great looking tiger, bull, mako (broad tooth white), sand tiger and snaggletooth shark teeth. I'll post a few of the better ones here. The colors overall in these spots are quite nice. The Hemipristis is almost two inches and must have been a monster.

Hi Kim, Funny thing is it is an old Epson 2480 Photo scanner doing the heavy lifting .. with color correction and photo editing in Photoshop. That one is a touch soft because I scaled it up from the original scan resolution. Just a touch. I love the strikes in some of the teeth, it is rare in this spot so I've been lucky when I find them. 14 minutes ago, KimTexan said: Is that a fossil? Now the age really can't be determined 'I think' since this is all mixed up in the dredge fill that is weathering out but it could be fairly old ? ... it was surrounded by shark teeth, phosphatic nodules, and whale bone. It has a bleached appearance but that can happen quickly and is a little larger than the size of my fist. I left it there in the sand. I've got a few at home already . This one was notable for it being complete, fairly large, with great almost black and white banding.

I've been trying to be diligent about documenting the best finds by location and date as a form of visual field notation. Sometimes on good days it can take time, but I'll have something to compare to later. I'm such a visual person, big notebooks of my scribble or endless spreadsheets just didn't make much sense. Well, that .. and I just wanna make them bigger and see all of those amazing lines and color. Cheers, B
Brett Breakin' Rocks
Ok, the gods of higher education have granted the weary a needed respite. I was bound and determined to head out on Friday winds and 40 degree temps be damned. To be fair, in my rush to the Savannah river I did see that the weather was great and the tides were fantastic but the wind !! ... who looks at that forecast anyway. Blah So, after making sure I wouldn't be paddling my Kayak in a Small Craft advisory I set out with the wind and whipped up waves at my back . 2 takeaways .. the near miss with the hurricane recently and the rain have been awesome. The only other thing I remember is being cold. And howling wind. Did I mention cold. I'm such a wimp, you folks up North must be guffawing. Scanner is busted . Ol Bessie gave up the ghost this week. so all I have are phone pictures. Apologies in advance. The great white sharks were out in abundance. Hi cold wind ! ...... A Baleen Whale Periotic - Balaenoptera (borealina) Thanks @Boesse for the ID help. A few fraglodons , a big ol poop ... and a horse tooth.

The larger phosphatic chunks out here are usually something interesting. It was only after I rolled it around in my palm for 20 minutes that the origins became clear. I do find Alligator/Croc teeth here occasionally so that could be a possibility. Thanks !
Brett Breakin' Rocks
The best from this Friday out on the river. The little Carcharhinus sp. looks a bit pathological with that pronounced swollen cutting edge. I think this is a bison scapula. Crazy because it was sitting a good 3 feet above the high tide mark on a mud flat. Those ships can really move the water around. A partial billfish rostrum which was worth keeping because it is a first for this location. A Camel or Llama tooth (?) sans root. I need to check the references here it could be a bison tooth but seems small for that (?) And a fraglodon .. a shame it is nicely marked. Maybe a candidate for a restoration. Welp .. that's it till Tuesday. The tides and the weather will be in my favor then. Muscles will be less sore ? .. we will see.
Brett Breakin' Rocks
A crazy colored C. hastalis that came from the river today .... couldn't really appreciate the tooth until I got a closer look with the technology. Maybe it's time for some reading glasses.
