Ksgal
I found this one in Kansas. I have no clue if it's just a odd rock formation or what. Thought I would share

ynot
Neat looking rock, but I see no fossil. However, in the second and the last pictures it looks like a carved bear. (it is not, just looks like it.) Rockwood
It's easy to imagine that could be a trace fossil. Proving it is a whole different story though.
Ksgal
I thought it looked like a big tooth, but I knew it wasn't. Just a neat looking rock. Thanks all

It does look a little like a foot cast to me but like you said how can it be proven and I not sure either maybe not . Here in the UK there is some famous spots where you can find foot casts that are free from the matrix. So that helps with an ID but I don’t know about Kansas, I think it maybe worthwhile doing a little research.
Fossildude19
Sorry, but I'm not seeing a footprint cast here. Just oddly shaped limestone. Keep Looking, though. 1 Tim - VETERAN SHALE SPLITTER VFOTM --- APRIL - 2015 __________________________________________________ "In every walk with nature one receives far more than he seeks." caldigger
This is obviously a tortoise effigy created by a previously unknown peoples of the Kansas region who worshiped tortoise as gods. @Tidgy's Dad

It was actually the "Smokey Hill Chalk Peoples", but you're British so we'll let it go.
Ksgal
It looked like a tooth to me, before a root canal. Lol just such a weird formation
Ksgal
The one "plateau" is so perfectly round. It's not a form or shape usually created naturally
Ksgal
I'm sure it is a root canal performed by the Smokey River Chalk People on their tortoise God that really looked like z bear
GeschWhat
Are you all sure it's not a fossil? It looks a bit like an ammonite fragment to me - at least in some of the photos. 1 Lori www.areallycrappystory.com/fossils www.facebook.com/fossilpoo
Ksgal
No I'm not sure. I'm just now starting to research fossils. I come here to ask for help identifying. Is there a way to tell if its rock or fossil?

With a piece as weathered as this is and only seeing pictures it is hard to be sure that it is or is not a fossil. Sometimes You need someone that knows the finds in the formation to be able to say one way or the other. Darwin said: " Man sprang from monkeys." I might have a fragment of a baculite (type of ammonite) that I can photograph so you can see what I'm talking about. For now, I'm off to bed. GeschWhat
Here is a piece of a baculite (straight shelled ammonite) at a suture line. \ EDIT: Sorry for the poor quality photos, I just snapped it quick this morning with my phone. I didn't realize how blurry it was until it showed up on my screen. Hopefully you can still get the idea.
