abeardsl23
Hello. While vacationing along Lake Huron in Michigan, I found a rather impressive, and likely rare, fossil (see image). It is clearly a vertebrate with skull, spine, appendages, and pelvic region relatively intact and clearly visible. The specimen is approximately 2 inches by 2 inches in size. Any advice or direction, as to whom I should contact to identify/analyze my find would be most appreciated. Thank you very much for your time. Kane
The geology of the area does not seem right for these kind of vertebrate fossils (mostly Devonian deposits). Could you post a few more images from different angles, and a closeup of a few of the features? It could very well be suggestively shaped rugose corals in a water-worn rock. 2 ...How to Philosophize with a Hammer
Ludwigia
I agree with Kane, but it would help clear up any questions if you could make detailed close-ups of the object. It's difficult to make out exactly what it is without higher resolution pictures. Greetings from the Lake of Constance. Darktooth
I also agree that closeup pics would help. Try taking pics of all the important features on all sides. It looks kind of cool whatever it is. 1 I like Trilo-butts and I cannot lie.
Herb
I do not think it is a vertebrate fossil. 1 "Absence of evidence is not evidence of absence"_ Carl Sagen No trees were killed in this posting......however, many innocent electrons were diverted from where they originally intended to go. Aurelius
I can totally see where you're coming from, but this appears to be a rock which just looks a bit like a fossil. It has some kind of mineral running through it, which gives the illusion of being bone.
