Icestar
Time for the second batch! Hopefully these should be a little more interesting than the medley of corals from two days ago, but there are still a few corals to be identified. At any rate, I have a weird imprint fossil here that I'm not sure of. Probably from the Michigan/Indiana area like the others. Any ideas? indominus rex
May we know the location? Life started in the ocean. And so did my interest in fossils.
Fossildude19
Looks like a mold of a spiny brachiopod. 4 Tim - VETERAN SHALE SPLITTER VFOTM --- APRIL - 2015 __________________________________________________ "In every walk with nature one receives far more than he seeks." Icestar
@indominus rex My bad! It's probably from the Michigan/Indiana border. That's where the majority of my finds were from. Unfortunately, since it was found some time ago, I can't be 100% certain.
Kane
I agree with spiny brachiopod impression, although the last image looks like it has the classic "sunflower" pattern of a Receptaculites/Fisherites, which might just be a trick of the light. 3 ...How to Philosophize with a Hammer

abyssunder
I can't clearly understand the features of the "imprint", but I'm inclined to believe that the specimen could be close to a eroded receptaculitid, maybe the inner side of it showing the wall structure, something in the line of Ischadites / Selenoides or relative. An in-hand inspection might reveal more details. This topic might be on help. 3 " We are not separate and independent entities, but like links in a chain, and we could not by any means be what we are without those who went before us and showed us the way.
