Jacob L
So, it looks like it is a joint of some sort. Maybe a knee? Anyways, if you post this in "Fossil ID" ( http://www.thefossilforum.com/index.php?/forum/14-fossil-id/ ) I'm pretty sure we'll know what it is in no time! Jacob L
It might actually be a Mosasaurus vertebra. I found this picture of a Mosasaurus vertebra: Jacob "God creates dinosaurs, God destroys dinosaurs. God creates Man, Man destroys god. finderskeepers78
Ah ha! I'm new and should looked more closely on where to post! I'll try it there too! Thanks! Wow, that does look similar.
-AnThOnY-
Its certainly not a mosasaur vertebrae It is from some land mammal, pretty large too
fossilus
It looks like an arteriodactyl calcaneum, probably cow or bison.

Looks like you are spot on. Amazing! Any idea how old this would be?
fossilus
You might get an idea by how fossilized it is. If it is heavily mineralized, it could be even the large extinct bison. I believe there are some posts to determine bison from cow, but the differences are subtle. The largest, fossilized bison calcaneus I've found is 3.6 inches long.
Peat Burns
Looks like an astragalus. Possibly cow or bison.
fossilus
Sorry Pete is exactly right. I misspoke and should have said astragalus.

finderskeepers78
Yes, very subtle differences. I still can't determine which if the two it is. I took another photo for size.
