Yeah,  ive collected a bunch of it from up the road...but this is odd

Its like fused together with the sandstone. And it seems to be hollow for lack of a better term.

Hmmm

There is this hole and two cracks that from what I can see make it look like a veneer of sorts.

Also it really reminds me of horn or tusk..

Isn't the Yegua shale where the petrified wood in this area comes from? This is a chunk of sandstone.

Pretty calcite crystals in this one and I agree you’ve got your self some fossilized wood.

I guess the only thing that had me confused is ive never seen petrified wood in the matrix around here and was under the impression that it all came out of a shale matrix.

The calcite is not from the same occurrence.

It was from the same location,  but it was certainly limestone rip rap for the bridge slope.

I would love to know where the quarry was.

Last time i found something like that it lead me to rucks pit... back in the day when it was still producing. :)

I don't see dog tooth spar calcite but yes it does put one in mind of Eddie Rucks back yard.  Neat find.

I haven't studied the formation, but it seems possible that there was an event that buried a forest before some of it's remains washed into the shale deposits.
