InfoHungryMom
Sorry I do not know terminology yet... I found this North of Amsterdam and I would love your thoughts. Thank you!
Darktooth
A worn chunk of antler? 1 I like Trilo-butts and I cannot lie.
LordTrilobite
Looks like part of a horn core. Possibly a bovid. 1 Olof Moleman AKA Lord Trilobite
InfoHungryMom
Thank you both! I have A LOT to learn! Is it possible to tell its age based on appearance or texture?
abyssunder
Hard to tell. The horn cores I'm familiar with (I think) are from the Vinca Culture - onward, and they were unearthed from terestrial sediments. The preservation is different. Your specimen has possible perminaralization and is washed out from saltwater. 1 " We are not separate and independent entities, but like links in a chain, and we could not by any means be what we are without those who went before us and showed us the way. InfoHungryMom
I just looked-up perminaralization- what about the specimen shows that as well as the “wash-out”? Also, how is the “corrugated” exterior look and the complex structure inside most simply described? (Possibly Vinca Culture? Amazing... almost my age!) Unfortunately, I am far too familiar with the results of beach replenishment in the USA/Atlantic Ocean... riptides, marine life accidentally “beaching” on artificially formed sandbars, and more. I read about the beach replenishment occurring in the North Sea, and the resulting displacement/dredging-up of fossils... I found a LOT of fossils from the North Sea, and I cannot thank you, Darktooth, and LordTrilobite enough for your insights!
KimTexan
@doushantuo May have some input on it.

abyssunder
For comparative reason, here's a horn core fused to the skull, from my collection. The internal structure and the external surface texture are nicely visible in the images. Hope this helps. 1 " We are not separate and independent entities, but like links in a chain, and we could not by any means be what we are without those who went before us and showed us the way.
