mburkett
Seller listed this as a “raptor toe bone” and it looks like it to me as well. Found in Montana’s HCF. What do you guys think?
The Amateur Paleontologist
It's definitely from a small maniraptoran theropod, probably deinonychosaurian - and I'm thinking it's rather a manual phalanx (finger bone) rather than a toe bone.. But anyway, very nice specimen -Christian 1 Opalised fossils are the best: a wonderful mix between paleontology and mineralogy! Q. Where do dinosaurs study? A. At Khaan Academy!... LordTrilobite
Does indeed look like maniraptoran. Some reference of different raptors: Saurornitholestes foot. TyBoy
Also very similar to Anzu wyliei that I've seen for sale. Isolated digits are very similar.
mburkett
Thank you all for your input and @LordTrilobite for the reference pics. I’ve been looking for digit II-1 and II-2 for my 3.5” HCF dromy killing claw and thought this might fit the bill for II-1. The distal end doesn’t quite look bulbous enough to be one though, although species and/or individual variation may account for that. @hxmendoza believes this to be digit III
LordTrilobite
More reference: Velociraptor killing claw replica from my collection. I don't think the specimen you posted is from digit II/killing claw. As you say, the distal end doesn't quite fit. 3 Olof Moleman AKA Lord Trilobite
